Palazzo Lanza Tomasi: a virtuous example
of preservation of a historical building and respect for the environment
Palazzo Lanza Tomasi is actively engaged in the search for maximum sustainability.
We take our commitment to the environment seriously so wherever possible we use high-quality biodegradable detergents and with a low environmental impact. We also favour cleaning with steam which, which is not polluting and fragrance free, and guarantees maximum sanitisation of surfaces and the environment. Our goal is to minimise our carbon foot print and do our utmost to keep our environment as clean and eco-friendly as possible.
We try to reduce the use of plastic as much as possible, replacing it with steel, glass, wood or natural products.
We have abolished the use of PET bottles of mineral water and only use micro-filtered drinking water in sterilisable and reusable glass bottles.
To counteract the devastating environmental impact caused by bathroom courtesy sets, we have adopted an innovative system designed by Antidot, a Maltese company of natural products that supplies us with stainless steel dispensers for the bathrooms of our Butera 28 Apartments. The shampoo, shower gel and soap provided by Antidot are in powder form and are made by ourselves by mixing the powders with water. The powders are contained in biodegradable paper bags, a form of totally sustainable packaging that also contributes to reducing the carbon foot print. These products are organic, vegan and free of any chemical ingredients.
In compliance with European standards, all mattresses in our apartments are fireproof, antibacterial and anti-bed bug, and are regularly sanitised. All the pillows are hypoallergenic and antibacterial.
All the windows in the building are double-glazed, which offers excellent thermal and acoustic insulation, contributing to the energy efficiency of the building and the comfort of our guests.
Our search for sustainability also involves the maintenance of our terrace, which we try to make as much of an oasis of biodiversity as possible. We make our own compost and do not use chemical pesticides. We use Neem oil as an anti-parasitic and against aphids and cochineal we create sprays based on water and Marseille soap or chopped garlic cloves.
We are investing in the energy requalification of our building, to preserve its historicity and at the same time reduce its environmental impact.
This year we will replace combustion generators with high-efficiency heat pumps, renovate and automate electrical and special systems, and install a 40kWp photovoltaic system. This intervention will allow us to reduce emissions in the city centre, improving the environmental sustainability of our building.
Our commitment is to make our Palazzo an example of innovation and respect for the environment.
